Dawid: A Different Selection

Christian Larsen presents Dawid: A Different Selection.  The exhibition exposes another side of the famous Swedish photographer whose artistic signature has been mercilessly stripped motifs executed with laser precision, acute presence and deep knowledge of the photographic medium.

The photographic works in the exhibition are a careful selection of editorial and commercial assignments performed by Dawid during the 80s, 90s and 00s. Fashion models, faces, dresses, feathers and cherries - every motif is intended to promote, enhance and add value. Seen through Dawid’s camera lens, these subjects gain a poignancy that is instantly recognizable from his purely artistic works. The difference here is the photographs’ unabashed beauty, sheer impact and aesthetic clarity that is not afraid to please.

Dawid (Bjorn Dawidsson) was born in 1949 and has since the 1970s been exhibiting in leading galleries and institutions in Sweden and internationally, including solo exhibitions in Stockholm, New York, Paris, London and Berlin. He has published numerous books and catalogues. In October 2015 Dawid will exhibit together with Hiroshi Sugimoto and Harry Callahan at Pace McGill in New York, one of the world's leading galleries for photographic art. A new book will be published in conjunction with the exhibition at Steidl.
